If you're not already a KJO season subscriber, what are you waiting for? As a season ticket holder, you'll enjoy a 25% discount over single ticket pricing. You'll also be able to choose your seats for the entire season...before they go on sale to the general public.

Once again this year, we're offering two season ticket packages. The first, our Classic series, includes three concerts at the Bijou Theatre plus our popular Swingin’ Christmas concert at the Tennessee Theatre.

The second package, our Premium series, includes all of the concerts in the Classic series, plus two very intimate concerts at Knoxville’s newest performance space, the Square Room on Market Square.

Tribute to Basie featuring the Clayton Brothers

Bassist John Clayton and alto saxophonist Jeff Clayton are Basie band alumni who co-lead one of the most highly acclaimed big bands in the world today: the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. This exciting concert will include some of Basie’s biggest hits, as well as some of the Clayton brother’s own super-charged, swinging material. Sure to be one rompin’, stompin’, head-boppin’ good time!

A Swingin’ Christmas with organist Dan Trudell

The hippest concert of the season! Classic Christmas favorites performed in the styles of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Stan Kenton. Hammond B-3 specialist Dan Trudell is one of the KJO’s most oft-requested previous guest artists. He joins the orchestra again this year to help make your season bright.

Jazz is for Lovers featuring Carmen Bradford

Vocalist Carmen Bradford was discovered and hired by the great Count Basie and spent nine years touring as the featured vocalist in his band. She has since performed and recorded with artists such as George Benson, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Wynton Marsalis, Lena Horne, Joe Williams, Patti Austin and countless others. This concert is sure to be the perfect Valentine's Day treat for your special someone. 

Afro Latin Jazz Night with Arturo O’Farrill

Pianist Arturo O’Farrill is a leader in Afro Latin jazz, an exciting genre that originated in the 1940s when artists like Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Kenton began combining the Afro Cuban rhythm section concept with jazz harmonies. This music includes salsa, merengue, songo, son, mambo, bolero, charanga, and cha cha cha and features the entire big band with additional percussion instruments. Mr. O’Farrill brings with him the arrangements of his Afro Latin Jazz Alliance big band, as well as his entire rhythm section: Ruben Rodriguez, bass; Vince Cherico: drums, timbales; Tony Rosa: congas; and Jimmy Delgado: bongos, timbales.

The Majesty of the Trumpet with Marcus Printup

Trumpeter Marcus Printup has been a mainstay in the trumpet section of Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra since 1993. His fiery style and engaging personality have delighted audiences around the globe. This special program will highlight the music of some of jazz music’s most inspired trumpeters: Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard.

 

The Music of Charles Mingus with Conrad Herwig

Conrad Herwig is widely regarded as one of the world’s best jazz trombonists. His resume reads like a Who’s Who of modern jazz and includes performances and recordings with the likes of Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra, Clark Terry, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Tom Harrell, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente and Buddy Rich. He is a featured soloist with the Mingus big band and often serves as the group’s musical director. This special program will feature some of Mingus’ most enduring compositions, as well as music arranged specifically for Herwig over his 30 year career.
